Sept.14-18 ‘09 Language Arts Syllabus Mrs. Switski

Please follow the syllabus. Some adjustments may have to be made during the week.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Curriculum Night Thurs. 9/17 for parents. Give them your schedule to follow.

Mon. class

1. Review syllabus. Two (2) extra credit pts. given each week for getting a parent signature on the syllabus or in the planner.

2. Copy assignments into planner – pay attention to due dates on the syllabus!!!!

3. Introduce first writing assignment – a narrative. Read through thoroughly. Write in due dates.

4. Review hallmarks of a narrative – see poster on wall.

5. Review writing Introductions and Conclusions – worksheet. Complete, correct, and save.

6. Review graphic organizers/ outlining –

choose one style for your narrative and begin a prewriting page.

HW Work on prewriting page or outline for your narrative – this step is required. Due Wed.

Tues. class

1. WOD & sentence revising. WOD quiz Friday – spelling and definition.

Concepts from sentences also on the test.

2. Finish presentations from Friday.

3. Writers’ craft: Avoid run-ons in your writing – Down Write Funny book.

HW Finish Avoiding run-ons sheet and work on prewriting page for narrative – due tomorrow.

Wed. class

1. WOD and sentence revising.

2. Check in prewriting page.

3. Writers’ craft: Showing in your writing instead of telling and adding dialogue.

HW Work on first draft of narrative. First draft due Monday 9/21 – typed.

Thur. class

1. Create a synonym list for all WOD’s – study spelling and definition.

2. Review notes on sentence revising.

3. Read through Writer’s Helper booklet – challenge your writing style.

HW First draft of narrative due Monday 9/21 – typed.

Spelling definition test on WOD & concepts from sentence revising.

Fri. class

1. Test: WOD spelling & definition and sentence revising concepts.

HW Read Sept. book.
