ANNOUNCEMENTS:  Guest Speaker Tues. in Core Ext. –

Tuesday schedule: Periods 1,2,3,4,8 lunch 9.7.8.   Grades updated Tues. 11/4

Obtain a book for November – an award winning bk.   Title due Friday.    Journals required for Nov.

Creative writing for Oct. due Fri. 11/7- Free topic.    How about this: describe a spooky Halloween.

 

Mon.-In class             

1. Extra credit for parent signature in planner or on syllabus.

2. Review syllabus. Copy HW in planner.

3. Presentations for Animal Farm – Students take notes.

HW             Oct. novel activity due tomorrow. You must have an index card with it!

           

Tues. In class             

1. Turn in Oct. novel activity.

2. Finish Animal Farm presentations – clarify notes

 3. Animal Farm packett – complete pgs. 3 & 5

  HW            Finish any work not completed in class.

 

Wed. In class             

1. Intro vocab. for Ch. 1 & 2 in Animal Farm pg. 6 in pink pkt.

 2. Read preface to Animal Farm.

HW            Work on creative writing -due Friday. (hand in 1st and final draft).

 

Thu. In class             

1.Begin reading Animal Farm.

HW             Finish reading  Ch. 1           Creative writing due tomorrow – 2 drafts.

           

Fri. In class             

1. Book title for Nov. due today.  Turn in Creative writing.

Oct. 20-24 “08 Language Arts Syllabus Mrs. Switski

Please follow the syllabus. There may be some amendments during the week.

Announcements: Seguin fund-raiser: Garage Sale - bring in your “trash” it may be another’s treasure.

Also bring in $ to spend. Don’t forget donations for Boxes for the Troops: candy, popcorn, cards, etc.

Portfolio Conferences are Thurs., please be on time for your appointment.

Thur. and Fri. noon dismissal. Class per. Schedule: Thur.=1,2,3,4 Fri.= 6,7,8,9

Friday – be sure you have your October book in class Thurs. and Fri.

Mon. in class
1. Extra credit points for signed syllabus or planner.
2. Preview syllabus – copy assignments into planner – remember No late HW accepted.

3. Discussion of “The Clown”: identify metaphors, irony, sarcasm, exaggeration.

HW Vocab. from Lemon Brown and The Lie- test tomorrow – both spelling and definition.

Tues.-In class
1. Extra credit for parent signature in planner or on syllabus.
2. Review syllabus. Turn in Contract with October book title.
3. Vocab. Packet: record unfamiliar words & meanings from pgs. 15, 16, 17 in LA notebook.
4. Review vocab. from Literature selections and literary terms.
5. Create a study guide for the vocabulary of “Lemon Brown”, “The Lie”, and all literary terms – test Friday.

HW Quickwrite due Wed. requirements:
colloquial speech, dialect, 3 facts from the selection in the red book.

Wed. In class
1. Share quickwrites.

2. Intro “The Clown” vocab. pg.58-61. Enter words & definitions into LA notebook.

3. Complete “Words to Know” pg. 63

HW Read “The Clown” answer questions 1-3 pg. 62

Obtain a book for October reading : mystery, science fiction, science fantasy, horror. Title due Friday.

Mon.-In class
1. Extra credit for parent signature in planner or on syllabus.
2. Review syllabus.
3. Vocab. Packet: Record unfamiliar words & meanings from pgs. 13 & 14 in LA notebook.
4. Intro pg. 15 – derived words. Complete pgs. 15, 16, 17 for Thurs.
5. Complete Words to Know exercise pg. 42 about “The Lie”
HW Contract work = Sept. Independent reading & writing due tomorrow.

Tues. In class
1. Turn in Contract work. Return Narratives – Published draft due Friday – all parts must be returned or no change in points.
2. Intro nonfiction. Pg. 43
3. KWL about the Civil War pg. 45– small groups then share.
HW Enter vocab. words & definitions for “Reflections on the Civil War” into LA notebook.
Pgs. 47-53 and complete the “Words to Know” exercise pg. 56.

Wed. In class
1. Read “Reflections on the Civil War” selection pg. 47-53.
2. Answer question on Civil War # 1-6.
3. Discuss answers, anecdotes, perceptions.

Thu. In class
1.Correct vocab packet pgs. 15, 16, 17.
2.Finish discussion on Civil War selection.
3. Quickwrite pg. 54 – choose 1 of the 3 choices Make it look authentic and use dialect, colloquial expressions, and description in the writing. Finished product due Tuesday 10/14.

Fri. In class
1. Book title for October due today.
2. Work on Quickwrite.
