1. Enter new literary terms: protagonist, antagonist, colloquial expression, anecdote – in La spiral
2. Intro “Words to Know” for “The Lie” – write definitions in LA spiral.
3. Preview the story and begin reading pg. 30.
Wed. In class
1. Finish reading and discuss the story “The Lie” pg. 30.
2. In LA notebook answer questions pg. 41 #1-6 Complete sentences always.
3. Pg. 41 in Literary Concepts box read about characterization and answer the questions there,
Thur - In class
1. Correct pg. 13 & 14 of vocab. packet.
2. Discuss answers from pg. 41 about “The Lie” and Perceptions theme.

First draft of narrative is due Wed. 9/24 – TYPED.
Mon. class
1. Extra credit for signed syllabus or planner. Copy assignments into planner.
2. Review syllabus for the week.
3. Intro new roots #41-50 on pg. 2 and #1-10 on pg. 17. Quiz on roots Fri.
4. Review writing skills from last week: avoiding run-ons, showing instead of telling, adding dialogue.
5. Hand out Lit books.
6. Enter “Words To Know” for 1st selection, “The Treasure of Lemon Brown” in LA spiral & define:
ajar, commence, gnarled, impromptu, ominous, tentatively, vault (verb).
HW 1. Finish vocab. for “Lemon Brown” if not finished in class.
2. Type 1st draft of narrative - due Wed.
3. Study roots #41-50 and 1-10 on pg. 17 and vocab. words for “Lemon Brown” – quiz Fri.

3. Finish new vocabulary entries into LA spiral.
4. Turn in late Contract forms.
5. Vocabulary packet – learn first 20 roots and their meanings pg. 2 of packet. Quiz Thurs..
6. Return Ch. 10 & 11 pretests – start review work according to directions on overhead.
7. Copy your individual review lessons work into your planner & start doing them.
HW Start studying the first 20 roots on pg. 2 of Vocabulary packet.
